Being a new mother can be a joyous occasion, while also fraught with sadness, anxiety and overwhelming exhaustion. Women experience grief over a loss of self while experiencing the demands of their new baby during the postpartum period.
Maybe you thought you would have more support, are not connecting to your baby like you thought you would or feeding your baby is harder than you imagined it would be. You may be angry at healthcare professionals for not taking you seriously or angry at the “perfect mother” culture in our society. Often new mothers feel they are a failure at being a mom, they never should have had a baby, and then feel shame for having such thoughts. Are you feeling this way?
Postpartum depression and anxiety are HIGHLY treatable! You will feel like yourself again. I use evidence based therapy techniques to help increase your sense of self, improve your body image and decrease depression and anxiety symptoms as a new mom. Therapy for postpartum concerns will be met with non-judgment and a warm atmosphere. I will not give you advice or judge you as a mother.
